Welcome to the website of the Middle East Acoustic Society (MEAS)
MEAS is a group of individuals with a keen interest in acoustics in its different guises. We are formed from consultants, engineers, suppliers and local authority members with technical expertise in acoustics and we offer members a platform to exchange information and experiences on acoustic related matters by means of meetings and gatherings and presentations on the group and our activities at industry events.
Many members also provide guest lecturing at local universities to raise awareness of future generations. As a group we aim to inform the public of the role and responsibilities of Acoustical firms and in particular the services which such firms provide.
We also promote the services of the industry and contribute to the establishment, maintenance and application of standards, laws and registrations.
We encourage a high professional standard in all matters of practice including technical advice, calibration and use of instruments, measuring techniques and data processing employed by acoustical firms.
MEAS hold quarterly meetings which range from discussion workshops on the current state of acoustics in the Middle East to practical sessions on building partitions, plus many more. MEAS is currently undergoing registration with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. The ultimate aim of registration is to allow hosting of conferences and seminars to further promote our activities and the services provided by our members and raise awareness of the importance of good acoustic design.

4th June 2020 - Quarterly Meeting |
|
Photo update to follow |
As with many of the worlds meetings, the second 2020 quarterly meeting was held Online via TEAMs due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. Due to the current downturn in movements in the region and many parts of the region being in lockdown it was discussed and agreed that background noise studies should take on the guidance of the IoA / ANC objectives until further notice. This means that in essence the results would not be considered appropriate for use in the mitigation design of external noise sources to internal spaces and that consultants should converse with each other to try to ascertain as best as is possible (under the circumstances) appropriate levels to use in design. As no additional comments were received The society has adopted the nominated path for CPD and membership validation and requested all members to work towards submitting their CPD early in 2021 for reactivation of their membership. Refer here (login required) for review of the presentation. The next Quarterly meeting will be held on September 3rd so keep checking into the site for further details. |

15 December 2014 - How to Build a Drywall Cinema Partition |
|
Members of MEAS got together for the Quarterly meeting hosted at the Gyproc headquarters in Dubai. After an informative presentation by Gyproc on the current healthcare and education market in the Middle East (and a tasty buffet), MEAS members donned their site boots and PPE gear for an interactive demonstration of how to build a drywall cinema partition. Site System Demonstrator for Gyproc, Gary Condon explained the process of building partitions in exquisite detail, demonstrating the expert way to build stud framing, screw fix plasterboard panels and apply tape and joint finishes correctly. Then it was the MEAS members turn, and results were... of quality that was consistently inconsistent to say the least. Overall a great time was has by everyone attending and many thanks to Gyproc for hosting the event. |
